Health and wellbeing coaches partner with individuals to help them achieve positive, long-term change for healthier, more fulfilling lives. Coaches support individuals across health and wellbeing areas, such as coping with stress, improving nutrition, increasing movement, weight management, getting higher-quality sleep, enhancing relationships, and achieving better life balance.
Sessions are carefully designed to:
- Produce meaningful, long-term behavior change.
- Identify critical motivators, strengths, and resources for success.
- Uncover roadblocks to living with greater purpose, health, and overall wellbeing.
- Create and implement a plan for achieving your goals.
- Develop lasting, restorative self-care practices.
An experienced and nationally board-certified health and wellbeing coach will partner with you to create a vision for your wellbeing and an action plan to move toward that vision through positive, sustainable change. We honor you as the expert in your life and create a safe, supportive space for exploration and discovery. You'll receive ongoing support and accountability throughout the coaching relationship to help you stay on track and reach your goals. Health coaching is not a "one-size-fits-all" approach but a focused, personalized experience tailored to your needs.
Meetings with your health coach can occur virtually or in person at select Y locations.
We provide personalized, one-on-one health and wellbeing coaching — virtually and in person — via single sessions or purchasing packages and subscriptions. The first (foundational) session is 60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are available for either 60 minutes or 30 minutes.
All YMCA of the North health and wellbeing coaches are certified by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) and have extensive training and experience in health and wellbeing coaching.
Although coaches aren't counselors or therapists, they tap into several evidence-based tools (including positive psychology and motivational interviewing). A coach's role is to support each person in creating an empowering vision for their health and wellbeing, along with self-motivating goals and action steps that help move closer to that personal vision.
Health coaches don't diagnose, prescribe, or treat — and only offer advice sparingly, with a client's permission. Often referred to as a "guide on the side," they instead honor individuals as the experts of their own lives and provide a safe, nonjudgmental, and collaborative space for exploration and self-discovery. Throughout the coaching relationship, individuals will receive the support and accountability necessary to foster experimentation, learning, and growth.
A coach can be of value to anyone at any time along their health and wellbeing journey. Many individuals engage in various lifestyle practices independently or through their community networks to achieve desired health and overall wellbeing. Still, others find a health and wellbeing coach provides the extra support and accountability they need to achieve their goals for a healthier, more fulfilling life.
If you're curious about health and wellbeing coaching but not ready for an actual coaching session, you can book a free 30-minute consultation with one of our board-certified coaches. During this consultation, you can explore your priority health concerns or goals, ask questions, and learn whether health coaching fits you. Your coach can also help you determine if other wellbeing modalities might better suit your current health and wellbeing priorities.
