Working together to make a difference
The YMCA is committed to responding to the community’s needs by developing innovative, community-based solutions. We strive to unite people from all walks of life to participate in, and work together for positive social change.
One way we honor this commitment is to build a sense of community through partnerships. The Mission Impact Council brings together more than 30 diverse organizations and community activists from within the Twin Cities, including:
- Minneapolis Public Schools
- National Youth Leadership Council
- Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation
- United Way
- Youthprise
The goal of the Council is to work together for positive social change through opportunities for the Twin Cities urban core and underserved. As we work toward solutions as a group, the Council discusses topics like:
- Diversity
- Education
- Employability
- Health and wellness
- Support systems
- Youth development
Since its inception, the Council has had more than 30 community meetings, and has engaged in seven immersion experiences. An immersion experience exposes participating organizations to issues present in the African American, Hmong, homeless and highly mobile, Latino Hispanic, Liberian, Native American and Somali communities.
If you’d like to get involved in the Council’s work to explore and prioritize opportunities for urban and underserved youth, contact your local Y for details on a planned Community Summit on September 10. View Community Summit flyer
