Sarah Crump Memorial Campership Application
Campership Qualifications
The Sarah Crump Memorial Campership is intended for women, non-binary, and/or youth from other under-represented groups who are pursuing future experiences at Menogyn.
History and Background of Campership
Sarah Crump was a beloved member of the Menogyn community and was both a camper and guide for a total of nine years, including Femmes du Nord expeditions in both of those roles. Sarah treasured her wilderness experiences at Menogyn, and later parlayed those adventures into her career as a geologist and paleoclimatologist doing fieldwork in polar and mountain settings.
During her Menogyn years, Sarah deeply valued her relationships and was passionate about caring for the earth. She felt strongly that her experiences at Camp brought out the best in her and fostered values that she held for the rest of her life.
Sarah received her PhD from the University of Colorado - Boulder in 2019. During her years as a PhD student and later as a postdoctoral fellow, she worked diligently to improve access to the sciences for women and members of under-represented communities. In 2022, she accepted a position as Assistant Professor at the University of Utah. Tragically, Sarah passed away later that year at the age of 34 from a rare and aggressive cancer.
A close friend described Sarah as “fearless, kind, loving, energetic and one of the best people at bringing folks together….and she fought for what was right.”
Sarah was an inspiration to many. To honor her memory, her family and friends have created this Menogyn scholarship to allow other young people to enjoy the same experiences that made such a profound impact on Sarah’s life.
